Job Description
- Accountable for the management and operations oversight of all aspects within pharmacy and back office including Patient Safety, Pharmacy Professional Practice, Regulatory Requirements, Quality Assurance, Customer Service, Personnel Management, Inventory Management, Financial Profitability, Loss Prevention
- Provides consultative services through the participation of overall development of pharmacy services policies, procedures, and standards in addition to the continued patient care evaluation program as related to drug use and side effects.
- Assures the adherence to approved and accepted ethical and professional practice throughout the service, by maintaining the proper storage, preparation and dispensation of all drugs, chemical and by careful monitoring either personally or as delegated and routine inspection and review of related records and documents and monthly reports.
- Identify critical business opportunities and meaningful solutions to drive growth and improve performance in pharmacy and successfully implement those solutions by leading your team to achieve specified goals.
- Adapt to change and adjust plans to thrive in a dynamic community healthcare setting.
- Coordinate and monitor pharmacy internal and external workload and productivity monitoring systems.
- In collaboration with chief pharmacists, managers and supervisors assist in resolving the problems identified in day-to-day operations.
- Perform selection of departmental staff, give orientation and supervision, facilitate corrective and disciplinary actions as well as dismissal, when necessary, in accordance with relevant organizational policies.
- Review of job descriptions, annual performance evaluations and feedback of all employees without bias.
- Leading NMC Pharmacy Staff, including Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians and administrative & support staff.
- Facilitate a ‘team’ culture that promotes caring, energy, enthusiasm, and pride.
- Institute and implement enhancement of quality for the department by encouraging professionalism, productivity, performance, and efficiency of all pharmacy staff.
- Motivate, inspire and develop Pharmacy Support Staff by balancing assignments that maximize colleagues’ strengths, address development opportunities and decrease knowledge gaps.
- Actively participate in the ongoing professional development of individual pharmacists via education mentorship and competency development.
- Support the DOH Medical Education initiative through active participation in selection, assignment, mentoring and feedback to interns assigned.
- Lead the team and staff meetings for assigned areas of responsibility to understand and solve the problems.
- Conducting pharmacological as well as product awareness program to update the knowledge of the staff.
- Active involvement in employee engagement and implementation of improvement initiatives.
- Intervene to solve the problem for inter-/intra-departmental issues. Facilitate interdepartmental communication, negotiation, and decision-making.
- Obtain adequate facts and evaluates data to identify and intervene in actual and/or potential safety and risk management issues.
- Assist in evaluating and reassigning staff during crisis situations.
- Plans and maintains daily work schedules necessary for required performance of all Department functions, including leaves of absence, vacations, holiday and weekend schedules, and emergency on-call schedules after working hours.
- Reports to and receives administrative guidance from the Hospital General Manager
- Provides guidance and direction in the co-ordination of Pharmacy Services Division’s major functions and activities to maintain proper professional and administrative procedures as required by and to satisfy JCI, HAAD, International Patient Safety goal standards and the UAE Government’s rules and regulations.
- Acts and makes immediate decision upon receipt of any DOH circular about the withdrawal and or discontinuation of any medication.
- Maintains confidentiality regarding patient information and regarding administrative matters of confidential nature.
- Participates as the medical authority on pharmaceuticals in the planning and implementation of integrated preventive-curative medical care programs and medical therapies.
- Is a prominent member of the Pharmaceutics and Therapeutics committee and contributes significantly to its stated functions.
- Serves as the primary liaison/consultant for all Pharmacy Services activities as related to the UAE Government and organizations. This includes the establishment of specifications for the procurement of all approved drugs and those chemicals and biological as related to pharmacy practice and for the development and maintenance of written policies and procedures pertaining to appropriate drug control, storage, preparation, dispensation, and administration through Pharmacy Services drug distribution systems.
- Replying to all official letters related to the pharmacy and its practice and to be legally responsible among monitoring authorities regarding all pharmacy practice.
- Keep good relationship with clinicians, provide updates on new products, advises Physicians on equivalents or substitute drugs and answer questions of Physicians and Nurses on pharmaceuticals and the compounding of special prescriptions.
- Reviews drug usage patterns and suggests control when needed; advises supervisor on drug usage fluctuations especially drugs on the critical list.
- Recognizes apparent chemical and/or physical changes that certain preparations undergo during storage and removes them to prevent them from reaching the patient.
- Spontaneous dispensing of some medications, if necessary.
- Recommends space, medical technology, equipment, staffing, and other resources needed by the department or service and have a process in place to respond to shortages.
- Devise ways to optimize inventory control procedures by analyzing inventory related data to anticipate future needs, to ensure that the adequate stock levels are maintaining for the items in pharmacy and to identify shortages as well as out of stock items.
- Ensuring proper management of near expiry drugs.
- Evaluate suppliers to achieve cost-effective deals and maintain trust relationships.
- Identify, track and drive margin optimization initiatives to reach the targeted profit margin. Analyze and provide insights on the behavior of various sales price and margin components.
- Effectively communicate with sales, vendor, and internal Finance team members to identify and resolve margin issues.
- Work with general manager to develop a comprehensive annual sales budget based on sales guidance, Company initiatives and historical sales trend analyses – including seasonality, market, and product line.
- Analyze your sales activities to attain the target and monitor the pipeline.
- Support and supervise staff with annual budget
- Proactively identify performance improvement opportunities by sales team members via developing and distributing various reports to assist the sales force in their daily and corporate-driven targeting efforts.
- Develop annual budget for operational and capital requirements, for review by cluster leadership.
- Ensure adherence to approved budgets for the fiscal year and champion cost optimization.
- Support and supervise staff with annual budget.

Qualifications
- Successfully completed and holds an accredited recognized BSc. in Pharmacy.
- Current and valid license to practice as a pharmacist in home country.
- Must have DOH License to practice.
- 10 years’ Experience with 3 years in administrative position.
- Excellent command of oral and written English.
- Must have a thorough knowledge of medical ethics.
