HSBC’s Global Functions (GF) play a vital role in supporting the bank’s Global Businesses and offer a broad range of career opportunities in areas from legal, risk and finance to human resources, sustainability, marketing and communications. Our operational and functional teams around the world help HSBC’s Global Businesses to operate efficiently and effectively on a day-to-day basis. They also focus on controls and governance to reduce risk and protect the Group’s reputation. Using insight from internal and external measurement, the role holder acts as a local representative of the Global Communications function, providing communications advice and execution for their respective region in support of HSBC’s strategy, purpose and values.
Responsibilities encompass the full spectrum of communications activities managed by the Global Communications function, including: building and protecting HSBC’s reputation: using external and internal communications channels effectively to create awareness about Bank’s strategy and achievements, using insight to drive discussions and communications planning; and creating engaging content.
The role holder reports to the Head of Communications, UAE, working in close partnership with the Regional Communications team to execute global and regional plans in-country.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Creates and builds relationships with external stakeholders that will take an interest in, and want to talk about HSBC, whether positively or negatively (e.g. media, trade bodies).
- Utilizes media relationships to deliver coverage for relevant Global campaigns and positioning for the global businesses that reinforces HSBC’s leadership on priority global themes.
- Identifies opportunities for cross-border and cross-business media activity in support of key trade/business corridors or collaboration efforts.
- Responds quickly to a crisis, escalating appropriately and advising the business on reputation risk, calmly guiding them through what they should and should not communicate.
- Uses media measurement to inform and guide media activity.
- Delivers global employee campaigns locally ensuring the messages match HSBC’s values and resonate appropriately with the relevant audiences, adjusting them accordingly for country audience.
- Knowledge and experience in videography and intermediate video editing skills; proficient with Canva software. Experience with Final Cut Pro X software a plus.
- Strict adherence to the global Media Relations Governance Policy.
- Collates existing insight from HSBC’s internal measurement (Snapshot, Exchange) to inform decision making and prioritize communication activity.
- Identifies themes and issues from multiple sources and pulls it together into a concise and insightful summary.
- Utilizes research and develop insights to provide communications counsel and help inform Regional ExCo debate, decision-making and strategy.
- Deliver fair outcomes for our customers and ensure own conduct maintains the orderly and transparent operation of financial markets.
Requirements
Experience & Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree is a must to obtain UAE visa.
- Broad knowledge of communications trends and international best practice.
- Strong communications experience and understanding of over 5-8 years in the financial/payments/technology/digital sector, media environment and culture
- Creative thinking and writing skills.
- Proven ability to operate within a global matrix and prioritize competing demands.
- Proven ability to align to a global strategy, whilst maintaining an awareness of local sensitivities and nuances.
- Strong storytelling and presentation skills and ability to produce clear, engaging narrative.
- Strong interpersonal skills and personal presence/credibility with senior stakeholders.
- Strategic planning and project management skills.
- Proven ability to deal with ambiguity and pressurized situations.
- Proven crisis management skills.
