Registered Nurse – Cath Lab

Job Description

  • Be responsible for providing and coordinating patient care, educating patients and the public about various health conditions, and providing advice and emotional support to patients and their family members.
  • Assess and identify patients’ needs and implement and monitor the patient’s medical plan and treatment. They will work with a team of physicians and other health care specialists or allied health in various settings
  • Perform systematic patient assessment and collect pertinent data about the patient’s health or situation.
  • Understand and analyze the assessment information and data
  • Determine actual and potential nursing diagnoses, problems, and issues
  • Define the predicted and expected outcomes of the patient’s planned care
  • Create and evaluate patient care plans with the medical team
  • Record vital signs, recognize and address abnormalities
  • Define the care plan in collaboration with the healthcare team, patients, and families.
  • Maintain and update the technical and clinical skills related to nursing practice
  • Employ strategies to promote patients’ health and a safe environment.
  • Understand different diagnostic tests and laboratory exams
  • Perform essential life support (BLS
  • Prepare patients for medical examination and treatment
  • Administer medications and monitor patients for any side effects and reactions
  • Administer treatments such as IV fluids or blood products and monitor patients for any reactions
  • Provide wound care management
  • Ensure that all equipment used in the clinical areas is safe to use and all in working order. Reports any defaults to the Nurse In Charge and Biomedical Department appropriately
  • Assist in medical procedures invasive or non-invasive as needed
  • Facilitate the process of safe patient`s admission and discharge
  •  Administer patient medications
  • Assist in diagnostic procedures
  • Assist in interventional procedures
  • Be prepared for emergency situations
  • Circulate and scrub during cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology procedures
  • Discharge teaching with patients and families including procedural, medications, activities, and dietary
  • Educate patients and their families before discharge regarding medication, lifestyle, and care of the surgical site
  • Ensure consent paperwork is accurately completed
  • Examination of the patient pre- and post-catheterization
  • Manage administrative aspects of cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology patients
  • Monitor and document patient vital signs
  • Monitor for signs and symptoms of infections or side effects of the procedure
  • Monitor patient sedation levels during and after the procedure
  • Prepare patients for procedures
  • Update patient charting and document on the procedure

Qualifications

  • Have an appropriate license to work as a nurse in the relevant regulatory health authority (DHA) with all the qualification and experience this mandates.
  • Manage their own professional revalidation
  • Have basic life support qualification (within past 24 months)
  • Have an active interest in the clinical field in which they are employed
  • Be willing to work across departments when necessary
  • Be able to communicate clearly and effectively in English (spoken and written)
